Here’s a sample of some terrific child creations:
Ear Muffs – Chester Greenwood loved to ice skate, but his hat wasn’t keeping his ears very warm during cold winter days. At the age of 15, he made a pair of circular hoops covered in fur and fastened them with a steel band.
Ice Pop (Popsicle) – One night in 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson left his soda outside to freeze with a stirring stick still inside. By running the glass under hot water, he was able to remove the iced drink and hold on to it with the stirring stick.
Trampoline – Young gymnast George Nissen collected materials from a local junkyard to create the modern-day trampoline in his parent’s garage in 1930. The bouncing device has sent people flying into the air ever since.
