Nature Photography Day

This day was designated by North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) to promote the enjoyment of nature photography, and to explain how images have been used to advance the cause of conservation and protect plants, wildlife, and landscapes locally and worldwide. In 2006, NANPA celebrated the first Nature Photography Day.

NANPA looks to the esthetic elements and practical ones, too. Photography has been used to rescue animals, plants, and habitats locally and worldwide.
June 15 has often become a day to explore the natural world close by, within walking or biking distance. Among the numerous ways to observe the designated day is to experiment with taking photographs of the same subject--turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.

This day brings together nature photography professionals from around the world. NANPA encourages people everywhere to enjoy the weekend by using a camera to explore the natural world. A backyard, park, or other place close by can be just right. Walking, hiking, and riding a bike to take photos are activities that don’t lead to a carbon footprint. And fresh air can do wonders for the spirit!

North American Nature Photography Association
The North American Nature Photography Association or NANPA is an organization dedicated to photography of nature. Established in 1994, the association has 3,000 members. Several categories of membership are available, including discounts for students.
