World Rat Day

04 Apr
Rat fanciers around the globe created this holiday to celebrate the bond they share with their pet rats and gather with fellow rat lovers.
World Rat Day was founded to promote rats as the great companions they are. April 4th was the date chosen for the holiday as it was the date of inception of the Ratlist, a mailing list dedicated to the discussion and care of pet rats. The Ratlist has been connecting the rat enthusiast community for approximately 15 years.
Suggested activities for World Rat Day range from educating the public about rats to making toys, treats and gifts for rats. Others will celebrate by throwing parties in honor of their rat friends.

Anyone who keeps rats as pets or companions is already in on the secret: these animals are friendly, loyal, intelligent, and very endearing.
Similar to dogs, pet rats generally like to be petted on their head and having their ears scratched. Rats grind their teeth both when they are stressed and when they are feeling content. Male and female rats differ in both physical appearance and personality. (Male rats are more apt to sit still while you pet them.)
